In her dance performance ‘The Gate’, choreographer and director Dunja Jocic intertwines contemporary dance with social and philosophical themes of modern society. She explores the concept of time through the movement of the dancers and the monumental treatment of space, inspired by Auguste Rodin’s “Gates of Hell” and brutalist architecture.
Dunja Jocic draws inspiration from monuments, which, like contemplative witnesses of history, serve as temporal anchors for the future. Often, they are ephemeral bodies frozen in eternal time. In the shadow of monuments, we find solace and an invitation to transcend temporal limitations. A tension arises between the dynamic nature of movement and the stillness of its perpetuation. A gate becomes a melting pot of human essence—a reminder that our collective narrative endures in the face of the relentless passage of time.
