FOLK | Het nieuwe choreografische werk van DUNJA JOCIĆ
In Folk verandert een uitbundige clubnacht langzaam in een bedwelmend ritueel. De dansvloer transformeert tot altaar, en de nacht tot een aaneenschakeling van rituelen waarin uniformiteit de overhand krijgt. Terwijl de sfeer kantelt, verandert ook de dynamiek: de groep vormt een gezamenlijke identiteit die voortdurend verschuift, zonder houvast, waarin individuen worden opgeslokt of afgestoten.

Collectieve krachten
Acht dansers nemen het publiek mee in een fysieke en meeslepende ervaring waarin groepsgedrag zich telkens volgens een andere logica ontvouwt. We worden meegezogen in steeds vreemdere rituelen, en onze ideeën over wat we zien en voelen worden telkens op hun kop gezet. De voorstelling laat voelen hoe confronterend, verleidelijk en beangstigend collectieve krachten kunnen zijn.
Jocić put inspiratie uit de rijke folktradities van voormalig Joegoslavië en uit de turbulente jaren ’90, toen de ideologische verschuivingen het dagelijks leven en de persoonlijke identiteit diepgaand veranderden. Buiten deze context heroverweegt Jocić haar eigen wortels en legt ze parallellen met de wereld van nu.
In Folk gebruikt Jocić de rauwe energie van Balkanmuziek en -dans om nieuwe rituelen te laten ontstaan: op het snijvlak van traditie, trance en transformatie, met echo’s van maatschappelijke omwentelingen.

FOLK | The new choreographic work by DUNJA JOCIĆ
In Folk, an exuberant club night slowly transforms into an intoxicating ritual. The dance floor becomes an altar, and the night unfolds as a sequence of rituals in which uniformity begins to take over. As the atmosphere shifts, so does the dynamic: the group forms a shared identity that is constantly in flux, without stability, where individuals are absorbed or pushed aside.

Collective forces
Eight dancers draw the audience into a physical and immersive experience in which group behavior unfolds according to ever-changing logic. We are pulled into increasingly strange rituals, and our ideas of what we see and feel are continually turned on their head. The performance reveals how confronting, seductive, and unsettling collective forces can be.
Jocić draws inspiration from the rich folk traditions of former Yugoslavia and from the turbulent 1990s, when ideological shifts deeply affected daily life and personal identity. Beyond this context, Jocić reconsiders her own roots and draws parallels with the present day.
In Folk, Jocić uses the raw energy of Balkan music and dance to generate new rituals: at the intersection of tradition, trance, and transformation, with echoes of broader social change.
